Frequently Asked Questions — GST
What is GST in India?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is India's unified indirect tax on the supply of goods and services, levied at 5%, 12%, 18% or 28% depending on the item. It replaced multiple older indirect taxes (VAT, service tax, excise) with a single tax structure.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?
For an intra-state sale, GST is split equally between CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST). For an inter-state sale, IGST (Integrated GST) is charged instead, at the same combined rate, and later apportioned between the centre and the destination state.
